LYTRA Ministries was founded with a deep conviction to address the dire situation of vulnerable children in Uganda. Shocking statistics reveal that poverty affects 57% of children under five years old, with even higher rates in rural areas. Moreover, the Uganda National Housing Survey 2012/13 reveals that 2.24 million children have lost one or both parents, and 374,000 are double orphans. A staggering 45% of orphans and vulnerable children are under the care of elderly persons, and over 28,800 households are headed by a child. It is apparent that these children are living in captivity with little hope or help.

In 2015, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our hearts were moved to take action and extend love and hope to these children. Just as Christ paid the ultimate price for our redemption, we also sacrifice our resources – time, money, energy, and more – to bring tangible relief to the poor, orphans, and disadvantaged. This is why we are LYTRA Ministries, which means “ransom”. Our name reflects our mission to serve as Christ served, paying the ransom for those in captivity and extending the love of God through our actions.
